Frequently Asked Questions about Countertop Slabs

What countertop materials does STONE carry?

STONE carries granite, marble, quartzite, and quartz countertop slabs. Featured lines include Cambria, Caesarstone, Dekton, Elements, PrestigeStone Quartz, Silestone, Stone Slab Yard, Viatera, and Vicostone. Inventory changes often, so ask our team about slabs that aren’t listed.

What’s the difference between quartz and quartzite?

Quartzite is a natural stone that’s quarried and cut into slabs. It looks like marble but is about as hard and heat-resistant as granite. Quartz is engineered: crushed natural quartz bound with resin. That makes it non-porous and stain-resistant, and it comes in a consistent range of colors and patterns. Choose quartzite if you want one-of-a-kind natural veining. Choose quartz if you want low maintenance and a predictable look.

Which countertop material is most durable?

Granite and quartzite resist heat and scratches best. Quartz is the most stain-resistant because it’s non-porous. Marble is the softest of the four and stains more easily than granite, so it suits bathrooms and low-traffic areas better than busy kitchens.

Can I see and choose my exact slab before it’s cut?

Yes. Our indoor, climate-controlled slab gallery in Baton Rouge lets you walk the slabs and pick the exact one for your project. Because natural stone varies from slab to slab, we recommend choosing in person.

Does STONE fabricate and install countertops?

Yes. Every slab is cut, edged, and finished in our own Baton Rouge fabrication shop, and our own crews install it. You work with one company from slab selection through installation.

Do I need an appointment to visit the showroom?

Walk-ins are welcome, but an appointment gets you one-on-one time with a team member who can pull slabs and talk through your options. Schedule one at our Jefferson Highway location (225.663.6845) or our Airline Highway location (225.293.2225).

How do I clean and care for stone countertops?

Wipe them down with mild dish soap and warm water. Skip harsh or acidic cleaners. Use trivets under hot pans, especially on quartz, because its resin can scorch. Natural stones like granite, marble, and quartzite usually need periodic sealing.
